David Lecoque is a dynamic and visionary CEO with a strong legal and management background. As the CEO of the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE), the global business association for distributed renewables in emerging markets, he has led the organization to new heights, vastly scaling up its operations and cementing its position as a leading voice in the energy and development sector.

Under David's leadership, ARE provides unparalleled business development, public relations, marketing, and training services to over 200 energy corporates and investors operating in 50+ markets across Africa, Asia-Pacific, and LAC. The association also conceptualizes and implements impact-oriented cooperation programs with numerous governments, leading international institutions, and philanthropic actors, with a focus on delivering universal clean electrification and driving the energy transition.

David takes an active role in steering multiple high-level boards and initiatives aimed at driving the expansion of renewables and accelerating global electrification. His particular emphasis is on catalyzing transformative growth in emerging markets.

Prior to joining ARE, David worked as an energy and environment lawyer at top-tier international law firms. He advised and litigated on a range of issues related to power and gas market design, tariffs, renewable energy support schemes, permitting, energy sector taxation, IPP/PPA contracting, waste, and pollution.

David holds an LL.M in European Law from the College of Europe, as well as BA and MA degrees in Law from the Free University of Brussels (VUB). He also has degrees from the ULB, the University of Malta, the International Business Institute, and Axelos. Fluent in English, French, Dutch, and German, David is also aspiring to learn Turkish and Mandarin.
