Akihiro Ondo is the Managing Director and CEO of Mitsubishi Power Asia Pacific, where he oversees regional strategy and execution of business expansion plans at Mitsubishi Power, a power solutions brand of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI). Based in Singapore, he oversees a team of over 1,200 employees across Australia, New Zealand, Bangladesh, and ASEAN countries including Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Myanmar and Vietnam.

Ondo's leadership entails offering best-in-class energy generation innovations that will help countries in the region balance energy security and reliability with sustainable development, all toward bettering communities that Mitsubishi Power operates in. These solutions include high-efficiency gas turbines, hydrogen, ammonia and biomass co-firing, operation and maintenance (O&M) of existing power plants and more. They also contribute to MHl's "Mission Net Zero" goal to achieve carbon neutrality in its operations and entire value chain by 2040.

With nearly 30 years of regional sales and management experience, Ondo has extensive expertise in leading business development teams and has forged close relationships with stakeholders from the public and private sectors, with particular focus on ASEAN and Asia Pacific over the past seven years.

Ondo started his career at MHI in 1996, supporting petrochemical plant construction projects in Indonesia. From 2000, he held several leadership roles in sales and commercial operations for power generation systems across Americas and Europe. Between 2007 and 2011, he was responsible for the development of new business areas such as IGCC (Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle), CCUS (Carbon Capture Utilization Storage), BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) and geothermal power generation across North America, including Canada.

In 2012, he was appointed Section Head of the Nagasaki Power Systems International Business Dept., Power Systems Division, where he was responsible for commercial operations of projects in Asia, Middle East and Africa. He was then appointed as Section Head of International Sales and Marketing for the ASEAN region in 2017, where he oversaw business development, sales and marketing activities.

Most recently in 2021, he was the Director of International Sales and Marketing for MHl's Power Systems division, based in Japan, where he was responsible for the Asia Pacific region, across areas including business development, finance, tendering and commercial project negotiation.

Ondo graduated from Keio University with a Bachelor's degree in Law. In his spare time, he enjoys outdoor activities like camping and skiing with his family.
