TNB Expands Global Footprint With a New RM705 Million Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul Contract in Kuwait

15 April 2025 - Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), through its wholly-owned subsidiary TNB Repair and Maintenance Sdn Bhd (TNB REMACO), has further strengthened its international presence by securing a seven-year contract with Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy (MEWRE).
In the newly awarded contract — valued approximately RM705 million — TNB REMACO and its joint venture partner, Kuwait-based AL DHOW Engineering, focus on the Maintenance,Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) of the Sabiya Power Generation & Water Distillation Plant. Located 65 kilometres from Kuwait City, the plant has a total generation capacity of 299.4 megawatt (MW) across four oil- and gas-powered units, playing a crucial role in Kuwait’s energy infrastructure.
Strengthening Global Presence
TNB President/Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Ir. Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan, stated that the agreement reflects MEWRE’s confidence in the TNB REMACO-AL DHOW joint venture to deliver high-quality and sustainable energy solutions, supporting Kuwait’s growing power demand.
“This contract aligns with TNB’s mission to be a leading provider of sustainable energy solutions, both in Malaysia and internationally. Beyond Kuwait, our global footprint extends to the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Cambodia.”
He further emphasised TNB’s commitment to supporting Kuwait’s energy sector while expanding its international portfolio. “This partnership not only reinforces our technical expertise but also strengthens economic ties between Malaysia and Kuwait.”
TNB REMACO’s Proven Track Record
TNB Power Generation Sdn Bhd (TNB Genco) Managing Director and TNB REMACO Chairman,Dato’ Ir. Muhamad Nazri Pazil, highlighted TNB REMACO’s strong presence in Kuwait.
“Since entering Kuwait’s power generation market in 2013, TNB REMACO has significantly expanded its business. We currently manage 11 active projects with a total contract value exceeding RM4.54 billion. Additionally, since 2013, a total of 16 TNB talents and experts have been seconded to oversee the projects, with six (6) personnel presently leading and managing the ongoing 11 contracts.”
Dato’ Ir. Muhamad Nazri Pazil also emphasised TNB REMACO’s readiness for further growth,both locally and internationally. “As part of TNB Genco, TNB REMACO continues to demonstrate technical expertise and capabilities in the power generation industry. We remain committed to expanding our business in Malaysia and beyond.”
The signing ceremony, held at the National Bank of Kuwait Head Office on 12 March 2025,was officiated by Datuk Ir. Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan and AL DHOW Engineering Chairman, Isam Al-Sager. Also present were Dato’ Ir. Muhamad Nazri Pazil and TNB REMACO Managing Director, Ts. Abidin Sarjo.
